BSA Troop # 17

About Us

Most Scouts make the journey from parent led Cub Scouts to boy led Scouts BSA in the Spring, so their first week of camping responsibility might be at Camp Geronimo along the Mogollon Rim (as pictured above) or at Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island (as pictured below).

The Scout year starts with a bang at the Fall Court of Honor to recognize Scout accomplishment at camp or any advancements which occurred since the Troop last met. To encourage attendance,  the Fall Court of Honor ceremony is proceeded by a pool party and pot-luck barbecue. Weekly Tuesday evening meetings start before the school year starts so there is enough time to plan our first monthly outing.

The monthly outings are full of both adventure and learning. There is so much to experience in Arizona. The Troop is constantly adding to our list of "favorite" and diverse places to go.

The warm winters lets us enjoy the desert and the nearby Tonto National Forest and its many lakes.

Backpacking the North Maricopa Mountain Wilderness near Gila Bend.

Canoeing, Kayaking, Fishing and camping on a Saguaro Lake weekend

South Mountain.backpack weekend from Telegraph Pass to a Heard Pueblo remote site

With Flagstaff only a couple hours away, a skiing weekend is another winter option

North of the Catalina Mountain range is Peppersauce Cave. Knee pads, helmets, headlamps and a waistline small enough to fit through the rabbit hole are all recommended.

Once the spring comes, our weekend adventures may find us in the Superstition Wilderness hiking to Reavis Ranch, First Water trails or Weaver's Needle.

          .

Car camping is not out of the question when dutch oven dinners and desserts are on the menu.

During our annual Patrol cookout competition,.if adult leaders are invited

to compete, they might go a little over the top.
